One of the most expected debut in Romaeuropa Festival is Angélica Liddell’s “Tandy”; the anarchic spirit of the Spanish theatre presents a play inspired by the homonym short story by Sherwood Anderson, set in the early 20th century United States Mid West. A lonely girl names herself Tandy after hearing a bizarre foreigner prophesying: «Your name is Tandy! ». Thus, this name becomes a symbol of lacking and need for love, disillusion and melancholy; the name becomes also an elegy to that love and melancholy, to madness and destiny. Liddell’s language is violent and surreal, physical and material, somehow ironic and sweet: the body is a “place” for a violent and sacrificial dramaturgy, made of reckless voices and music.
