Africa is re-born and Afropolitan is the attempt to turn this brand new languages decade into music. The term Afropolitan was created in 2005 by the Ghanaian writer Taiye Selasi and it became famous thanks to Cameroon philosopher Achille Mbembe’s essay “Afropolitanism” about multicultural as the African gateway to global citizenship. That is why the term refers to the “mobile, sociable and attractive” middle class and its ability to raise in economic and art fields. “Young, urban and culturally aware” titled CNN in a documentary about the new Afropolitan enterprise. This is an explicit moving away from that “pornographic disaster” often associated with African apocalypses; but this is also a step forward from the idea of the African Eden, only made of wilderness, tribes and traditions. Afropolitans are hybrid people who study in Paris and exhibit in New York even without forgetting their roots, especially the esoteric ones. They are unbowed experimenter and researchers as a vocation; but also hypertext narrators able to translate the contemporary in a unique and shocking way. Welcome to the XXI century Africa, between cosmopolitism, black magic and digital highways.
