Amiamo poche altre cose come l’estate, inutile dilungarsi oltre.

A love letter from the editorial staff of Siamomine to Romaeuropa, at the end of this first chapter of #TAKEOVER. See you in September during the festival!

We love only a few other things like summer, it is useless to dwell further. Yet, at the same time, we also love a few other things like a summer that ends. It is hard to explain further, but we also know that whoever knows what we are talking about, has already understood.

Rome in September is a magnificent city. One can still see a residue of tan among the masses of people who repopulate the neighbourhoods, somehow a certain peace, accumulated during the long postprandial siestas of August, survives, and sandals are luckily not yet out of time on the sidewalks and in the streets. It is the moment of maximum splendour for good intentions, as delicate as tulips that will inexorably wither one by one in a short time. Weeks take shape again and with them also the sweep of free time. One of our favourite activities is to take our agendas and fill it with all the cultural events and activities that the city offers with renewed vigour. In short, in September Rome is beautiful also because Romaeuropa Festival begins, a fixed appointment – just to use this hateful banal expression – that has been there practically forever, along with a handful of other certainties in life.

Generally, it all starts with a sunset. Whether on the Lungotevere to reach the Auditorium Parco della Musica or the MAXXI, or in the background behind the post-industrial skyline of the Ostiense district to get to the Mattatoio. It is always wonderful to set out at dusk for the shows of Romaeuropa, when the length of the days still contrasts the arrival of the evening and the approaching autumn still seems very far away.

Maybe it’s rude to say it, but our favourite place is the Cavea of the Auditorium. Impossible not to be enchanted by the atmosphere – and the acoustics – that the open-air show offers. It is clear that the idea of ??sitting down and watching Max Richter‘s performance makes everything easier – as will happen next September 20th – but in the past we have seen many other shows of the same level, the first that comes to mind is Two by Alva Noto and Ryuichi Sakamoto, a true gift by Romaeuropa to the city to bring such a show. It will remain for a long time among the most beautiful concerts we have attended to in recent years. In that case it was the Sala S. Cecilia, which together with the Petrassi Hall will also host a lot of shows this year that we will not miss: first of all the whole Line Up! review, which includes some of the best contemporary pop musicians such as Rachele Bastreghi, Ditonellapiaga, La Niña, for example.

As the readers of Siamomine know, we are quite obsessed with technology applied to society, so the Digitalive exhibition best represents our passions in terms of internet culture, artificial intelligence, digital work. We can’t wait to see Il Quadro di Troisi live for the first time, the project by Donato Dozzy and Eva Geist that we have loved since the first hour, just as we have loved Not Waving for quite a while.

But Digitalive is not just music. We have no idea what awaits us, but we know that it will be fantastic to participate in “Cosi è (o mi pare)”, or Elio Germano that plays Pirandello in augmented reality at Mattatoio.

In fact, now we feel guilty for having said that the Cavea is our favorite place, because the former slaughterhouse (Mattatoio) is also a piece of our heart. Let’s say this is where we mostly feel at home – not just because we live closer! -, this is where the REf soul to which we feel really connected to beats, and which makes it the festival we love very much. This is where another big chunk of Digitalive will take place, which means Marta De Pascalis, Colin Benders, as well as online appointments with Mara Oscar Cassiani and Umanesimo Artificiale, among others.

At this point the above agenda is already pretty full. But we’re not done. Also because if it weren’t for Romaeuropa, we would be hopelessly ignorant in terms of contemporary dance, and what little we know, we know because we have seen some incredible shows during the festival and so it will be during the Dancing Days review. It will be our return after many months at the Vascello Theater with Connor Schumacher, at the Argentina Theater with “Andy” by Gus Van Sant, in Room A of the India Theater with Inferno by Roberto Castello. We already know it will be far too exciting.

The beauty is that there are still dozens of events to talk about, but Romaeuropa is unique for this too. Everyone experiences it in their own way, touches it or crosses it as the case may be. It is an integral part of the city throughout its duration and beyond. This is another reason why we were delighted with the #TAKEOVER project that has been going on over the past few weeks on these channels. It was an experience we will treasure and a unique opportunity. Now we can not help but send these love cards and give you an appointment in September, with all the surprises that the month always carries.
