Referring to the music of Luciano Berio in any way is, in itself, a complex task. His artistic journey incorporated references and practices open to the plurality of music and, as such, permeable to a constant process of recontextualization. Fragments from some of his works (such as Naturale with the voice of Sicilian storyteller Celano), as well as sound objects from his vast documentary explorations, emerge and come together in a surprising and evocative path, enriched by the spatial dimension that Berio, the composer, so cherished and used from the very beginnings of his repertoire. The installation presented by Tempo Reale is a true homage to the great master of contemporary music: a score of sounds and voices, a small journey into one of the most influential minds of the twentieth century.
Founded by Luciano Berio in 1987, Tempo Reale is today one of the leading centers for research, production, and education in the field of new music technologies. Since its establishment, the Center has been dedicated to the realization of Berio’s works, taking him to perform in the most prestigious concert halls around the world. The development of criteria for quality and creativity derived from these experiences has resonated in the continuous work conducted with both established composers and artists, as well as emerging young musicians. The main themes of research reflect the idea of versatility that has always characterized Tempo Reale’s choices and initiatives: the creation of significant musical events, live sound processing studies, sound and space interaction experiences, and the synergy between creativity, scientific expertise, and rigorous execution and teaching. In 2008, the Tempo Reale Festival was founded, a regular series of concerts, performances, and shows dedicated to experimental music. Since 2013, Tempo Reale has been a Public Institution for Live Performance in the Tuscany Region; since 2018, it has been Italy’s member of the International Confederation of Electroacoustic Music
