Workshop curated by Microstamperia Quarticciolo
Silk-screen printing is a traditional printing technique which, through the use of a frame, allows for the serial reproduction of images and drawings. Printing can be done on different supports and materials, and in general it proves to be a versatile educational tool for all age groups.
In the context of children’s workshops, in order to provide an introductory approach to the printing technique, screen printing will be presented in its simplest form, creating frames with stencils and masks, and experimenting together.
During the workshops proposed by Microstamperia Quarticciolo we will work on the negative and positive aspects of printing to explain how screen printing works. Through a story about the luminous elements of the night and with familiar concepts, the children will draw and cut out stars from sheets of white paper.
These cut-outs will be placed on the printing frame to prevent the ink from passing through, thus creating a print of a drawing. When arranging the stars on the frame, each child will add their own star, learning together how to interact and collaborate to create a starry sky that works well for everyone. The frame, once the starry sky has been set, will become the tool that allows all the children in the group to print two or three copies of the sky: one to take home, one to exchange with a classmate.
Note:
When attending the activities, we recommend that children wear clothes suitable for working with paints and inks.
All materials will be provided by Microstamperia.
