Due grandi protagonisti della scena internazionale tornano al Romaeuropa Festival con spettacoli che intrecciano tradizione e innovazione, spiritualità e vita urbana. Dalle favelas di Rio de Janeiro alle città pulsanti dell’Africa occidentale, Lia Rodrigues e Qudus Onikeku portano in scena una danza che è al tempo stesso rito, denuncia e rinascita.
Lia Rodrigues – Borda
Con Borda, la coreografa brasiliana Lia Rodrigues celebra i 35 anni della sua Companhia de Danças, continuando a esplorare i legami tra arte e comunità . Creata presso il Centro de Artes da Maré, nel cuore di una delle più grandi favelas di Rio de Janeiro, l’opera racconta la danza come atto di resistenza e di creazione collettiva. Nove performer abitano la scena come un organismo vivo, fondendo sogni, memorie e gesti quotidiani in un tessuto in continua trasformazione. Borda è un viaggio poetico e potente ai margini — là dove nascono nuovi linguaggi, nuove forme di bellezza e nuove possibilità di esistenza.
Qudus Onikeku – TERRAPOLIS
Dopo il successo di Re:INCARNATION, il coreografo nigeriano Qudus Onikeku torna al Romaeuropa Festival con l’ultima parte della sua trilogia: TERRAPOLIS. Sedici artisti sul palco danno vita a un universo in cui danza, musica, moda e arti visive si fondono in un’esperienza sensoriale totale. Radicata nella cultura yorùbá, la performance esplora il legame tra l’essere umano e la terra, evocando rituali, sonorità ancestrali e ritmi urbani che si incontrano e si trasformano. Un flusso di energia viscerale attraversa la scena, dove corpo e musica diventano strumenti per immaginare un futuro diverso — un mondo in cui tradizione e contemporaneità danzano insieme.

Lia Rodrigues – Borda
With Borda, Brazilian choreographer Lia Rodrigues celebrates the 35th anniversary of her Companhia de Danças, continuing to explore the deep connections between art and community. Created at the Centro de Artes da Maré, in the heart of one of Rio de Janeiro’s largest favelas, the piece portrays dance as an act of resistance and collective creation.
Nine performers inhabit the stage like a living organism, blending dreams, memories, and everyday gestures into an ever-evolving fabric. Borda is a poetic and powerful journey to the margins — where new languages, new forms of beauty, and new possibilities of existence emerge.
Qudus Onikeku – TERRAPOLIS
Following the success of Re:INCARNATION, Nigerian choreographer Qudus Onikeku returns to the Romaeuropa Festival with the final part of his trilogy: TERRAPOLIS.
Sixteen artists take the stage to create a universe where dance, music, fashion, and visual arts merge into a total sensory experience. Rooted in Yorùbá culture, the performance explores the relationship between human beings and the earth, evoking rituals, ancestral sounds, and urban rhythms that meet and transform one another.
A visceral flow of energy runs through the stage, where body and music become tools to imagine a different future — a world in which tradition and contemporaneity dance together.
