Andrea Fabris

Powered By REF: Aion

Now in its sixth edition, Powered by REF is a project within the Anni Luce section curated by Maura Teofili, which selects three proposals by artists under 30, offering them a path of training and development with the aim of expanding opportunities for the new generations of theatre.
The Powered by REF days mark the first public encounter with the works of the selected artists: an opportunity to share fragments of performances, visions, trajectories, and creative processes in progress.
A single body traverses the creative process as a fragile terrain: it tries, fails, persists.
AION is a performative action between movement and sound that employs pantomime as an expressive practice and the body as a tool to investigate the surrounding environment.
In response to the performer’s movement, an algorithm generates in real time a constant exchange between acoustic sound, digital processing, and the human voice.
Within this dimension, the performer becomes a critical body, struggling to break free from a daily life saturated with information — information that promises meaning yet reveals itself to be hollow.
Between impulse and control, human gesture and machine, information and its message, AION stages the ambiguous pursuit of trying without ever succeeding, in a world that grants the illusion of expression while transforming freedom into a subtler form of servitude.

Born in Venice in 1996, Andrea is a performer, composer, and sound artist based in Bologna.
His research focuses on the relationship between movement, gesture, and its sonic translation, using his own body as an instrument to explore this liminal dimension.
Originally trained as a drummer, over the years he has developed an eclectic approach to the instrument, which he regards as a constant source of inspiration.
Today, his work integrates performance and digital technologies, creating interactive systems in which gesture becomes a central element of the compositional process.
In addition to his solo projects, Andrea is a member of several experimental music collectives and ensembles, including Haou Nebout, Veneer, Nuatr3, Dimora inquieta, and Hum.
