Recognized as one of the pioneers of hip-hop dance in France, Bintou Dembélé returns to the Villa Medici – where she recently developed her research as resident artist – to present Rite de passage. The protagonist of this solo, in dialogue with the marvellous spaces of the French Academy in Rome, is Michel “Meech” Onomo: a DJ, dancer and choreographer who has gained an international reputation as one of the major talents engaging with the different currents of hip-hop dance, a field in which he was four times winner of the Juste Debout competition, an important international gathering in Bercy. Alongside him, Dembélé delves into the memory of the body to build a reflection open to historical, social and universal questions.
