From collaborations with Madonna to high-energy dance scenes and reflections on technology, the (LA)HORDE collective, composed of Marine Brutti, Jonathan Debrouwer, and Arthur Harel, established itself as a leading innovator in contemporary dance. At the helm of the Ballet National de Marseille since 2019, the company lands for the first time at the Romaeuropa Festival to present excerpts from two of its most significant works: Room With a View, a powerful performance that confronts the decline of civilization with the energy of twenty-eight dancers of different nationalities and the evocative electronic music of Rone, and Age of Content, a reflection on new media and their influence on the younger generations, which mixes dance and technology in an encounter between the virtual and the physical. Physicality, lyricism, and electronic and minimalist sounds celebrate the energy of the younger generation, exploring the contradictions of our present, between chaos and connection, presence and absence.
Since 2019, (LA)HORDE has led the CCN Ballet National de Marseille, bringing together artists Marine Brutti, Jonathan Debrouwer, and Arthur Harel, who have worked together since 2013. Through films (Novaciéries, 2015; Cloud Chasers, 2016; The Master’s Tools, 2017; Cultes, 2019; Room With A View, 2020; Ghosts, 2021), performances, and choreographic works (LA)HORDE explores the political implications of dance and maps the forms of popular uprising choreography, examining new dynamics of dance and body representation developing online. Created with the artist RONE in 2020, Room With A View is their first choreographic work with the Ballet National de Marseille, which now features 23 dancers from 16 nationalities. After Childs Carvalho Lasseindra Doherty, in 2022, they presented Roommates, a program of six short pieces by Lucinda Childs, Claude Brumachon, Benjamin Lamarche, Peeping Tom, Cecilia Bengolea, and François Chaignaud (LA)HORDE, alongside a large dance exhibition, We Should Have Never Walked on the Moon, blending the genres of musical theatre and action cinema with avant-garde choreography. Created in 2023, Age of Content is their latest choreographic work with the Ballet National de Marseille.
