Dada Masilo -together with other 12 dancers- creates a whole new George Bizet’s “Carmen” experience, unveiling the inner essence of the gipsy protagonist. The performance is exciting and personal and it marks a new evolutionary stage into South African choreographer’s career. Masilo is well known for the energy and dynamism she creates combining contemporary dance, traditional African folk dance and ballet; in “Carmen” she adds the flamenco charm to all these. Music is also an important “merging place”: Rodion Š?edrin’s ballet suite for original Bizet’s themes is combined with the Maria Callas’ “Habanera” and Arvo Pärt’s “Lamentate”.
