Camilla Brison presents the conclusion of her finalist project at the Venice Biennale 2018 competition for young directors under 30. The inspiration for No Land Lady was The Storm by Giorgione: the green sky, the abandoned village, the atmosphere of looming menace, the mystery of the relationships between the characters. This is the inspiration for the four suspended figures that, in the words of Greta Cappelletti, attempt to inhabit a space, real or imaginary: “It was as if the characters had fled the painting and gone around inventing a life, guided by the hand of the writer, and now they had to be accompanied back to their place,” says the director about the compositional process. In No Land Lady it is images that tell the story- or perhaps stories- that inhabit the rhythm of a city, the solitude of certain of its landscapes, its temporary refuges: offering the audience an opportunity to observe, rather than try to ‘understand’.
Bio
Camilla Brison è regista teatrale, traduttrice teatrale e operatrice teatrale nel campo nella drammaturgia contemporanea. Si è laureata in Scienze dei Beni Culturali presso l’Università degli Studi di Milano e l’Université de Nîmes. A Londra ha conseguito il Master in Advanced Theatre Practice presso la Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. Come regista ha diretto Una Marchesa ad Assisi di Ippolita Baldini e Emanuele Aldrovandi, Vuoti di Memoria di Laura Tassi, Greta Cappelletti e Lorenzo Piccolo, 3 Novembre e Sterili di Maria Teresa Berardelli. Nel 2018 è stata finalista del bando Giovani Registi Under 30 della Biennale di Venezia con No Land Lady, di Greta Cappelletti, spettacolo in produzione nel 2020. Come assistente alla regia ha lavorato per Il Macello di Giobbe di Fausto Paravidino e La vita Ferma di Lucia Calamaro, Queen Lear di Nina’s Drag Queens, Per il tuo Bene di Pier Lorenzo Pisano. Dal francese ha tradotto Kif Kif di Pietro Pizzuti, George Kaplan, di Frédéric Sonntag e Sicilia di Clyde Chabot; dall’inglese ha tradotto Lessons Sweet and Honourable di Edward Fortes e Angry di Philip Ridley. Dal 2019 è regista di audiolibri per Emons. È stato membro del Comitato di Lettura e del laboratorio Crisi condotto da Fausto Paravidino dal 2012. È stata commissaria di selezione per il Premio Riccione per il Teatro 2015 e 2017. Nel 2019 ha creato con Edward Fortes e Anna Landi, Italy Uncovered, rassegna di drammaturgia italiana a Londra.
