Alva Noto (Carsten Nicolai) -an icon of electronic music- returns to the Romaeuropa Festival in an unprecedented guise alongside the Ensemble Modern, to present the fourth part of his project Xerrox: an instrumental piece specially arranged for the ensemble and commissioned for Frankfurt Positionen 2021. Music, video and light installations combine to create a unique experience based on the concept of digital replication of source material.
Xerrox, in fact, deals with the manipulation of data (melodies) by means of endless reproduction; a procedure involving the making of copies made from other copies, so that everyday sounds become so altered that they can be hardly associated with their source material. However, this manipulation is based on developing a project capable of merging the material and the immaterial, the digital and the acoustic, continuously slipping from one universe to another.
