È pericoloso leggere i giornali

Powered by REF is a project by Romaeuropa Festival dedicated to the new generations of the Italian contemporary scene: a space designed to support artists under 30 in the early stages of their research across theatre, performance, and hybrid languages. Each year it selects three emerging projects, offering mentorship, residencies, and concrete opportunities for growth and exchange. In the 2026 edition, the programme renews its commitment to intercepting radical visions, unconventional formats, and new artistic sensibilities. The project is realised in collaboration with Carrozzerie | n.o.t, with residencies co-produced with Twain and Settimo Cielo, and in partnership with ATCL / Spazio Rossellini, Teatro Biblioteca Quarticciolo, 369gradi srl, and Cranpi.
The scenic fragments of the selected projects, presented within the Anni Luce section of Romaeuropa Festival at the Mattatoio, represent the first restitution of this process.

È pericoloso leggere i giornali

December 19th, 2028, is the day with the highest number of femicides ever recorded in history. A state of emergency is declared. Women are imposed precautionary measures to survive the catastrophe. They are left with only one choice: avoid leaving their homes and avoid interacting with men.

Two performers, dozens of screens, a reality in which gender-based violence is treated like an epidemic, a climate crisis, an environmental disaster. A degenerative disease for which there is no cure except trying at all costs to avoid contagion. But what happens when a social epidemic is not treated at its root, but only through its symptoms?

Annachiara Vispi is a Rome-based director and theatre maker, born in 1997. She lived in Ireland from 2015 to 2021, where she graduated in Drama and Theatre Studies at Trinity College Dublin, specialising in directing and collective creation. Her work deconstructs the everyday in order to reimagine normality. She has written and directed two projects in Italy: Persona Metropolitana, a performance exploring what it means to live in a city today, and Sei la fine del mondo (letteralmente), which examines the connection between human violence against nature and gender-based violence. Her projects have been presented at Carrozzerie n.o.t., Teatro India, Teatro Palladium, Inbox 2024, Kilowatt 2024, Dublin Fringe Festival, and InScena! New York. She occasionally flirts with the world of performance poetry, taking part in poetry slam competitions, and with cinema, where she works as an assistant director (Agon; 40 Secondi)
Sofia Russotto is an actress, author, and theatre director, born in 1998. In November 2021 she graduated from the Accademia Nazionale d’Arte Drammatica “Silvio d’Amico” in Rome with the production Hotel Goldoni, directed by Antonio Latella. During her years at the academy, she developed a strong interest in dramaturgy, writing several texts: in 2019 she wrote Le Signorine. In 2021 she wrote Gente Spaesata, which premiered the following year as a work-in-progress at Carrozzerie n.o.t. (Rome), where she also directed it. The show was a finalist at the Martelive competition and Inbox dal Vivo 2026. In 2023 she took part in the advanced physical theatre programme at Arearea, where she created the performance Most. She also attended the “Drammaturgie” playwriting course (ERT). Since 2023 she has been artistic director and co-founder of the festival Spaccature, based in Civita di Bagnoregio (VT), and of the company CollineFar.
