Fluxus Tree

Music by Giuseppe Chiari, Toschi Ichiganachi, Yoko Ono, John Cage

FLUXUS TREE is a project that places at its core the legacy of the Fluxus movement, one of the most radical and influential avant-gardes of the twentieth century, capable of transforming the musical act into gesture, relationship, everyday action, and expanded listening. Fluxus redefines the role of the performer, the very idea of the score, and the boundary between art and life, proposing an open, playful, and deeply democratic approach to music-making. The project engages with this heritage through scores that emerge directly from Fluxus experience — such as the performative actions of Yoko Ono, the sound events of Giuseppe Chiari (on the occasion of the centenary of his birth), and the graphic signs of Toshi Ichiyanagi — as well as through works by artists who shared Fluxus’ spirit, practices, and visions, such as John Cage. What emerges is a map of connections, resonances, and reciprocal influences that reveals the vitality of an aesthetic idea still capable today of shaping contemporary musical thought.

The concert takes shape as an improvisational journey through open instructions, graphic notations, and sonic actions. Alongside sound, the performative space itself becomes a parameter of the performance: the relationship between musicians and space, as well as between performers and audience, is continuously redefined, dissolving the conventional separation between those who listen and those who act.

The Tempo Reale Electroacoustic Ensemble is a flexible formation composed of associated performers who work regularly within Tempo Reale (the music research, production, and educational center founded by Luciano Berio), as well as guest artists and external collaborators. The ensemble brings together musicians active in contemporary sound research, improvisational practices, and the exploration of new musical technologies.
The ensemble’s vocation is to experiment with languages, devices, and open forms, creating performances in which electronics, gesture, and listening become tools for collective creation.
