The Film Lab at Romaeuropa Festival is an extraordinary stop on the 2026 Pianeta Mare Film Lab tour, a series of five-day artistic and educational residencies dedicated to students, filmmakers, visual artists and researchers under 30. During the workshop, participants develop stories around Rome’s urban landscape, exploring biodiversity, urban forests and heat islands through conversations with experts, artists and professionals, including Guido Fabiani, Fabrizio Grifasi, Fabio Salbiati, Marco Ciolfi, Andrea Lelario, Giulio Ielardi, Bibi Portoghesi and Giorgio de Finis. The programme also addresses issues of social and cultural urban regeneration and experiments with innovative smartphone filmmaking techniques to create original short films with zero budget and minimal environmental impact.
The programme culminates in an evening dedicated to the screening of the six short films created during the Film Lab. At the end of the screenings, the audience will be invited to vote for their favourite short film via a digital platform accessible through a QR code, helping to determine the winner of the evening. The two young filmmakers behind the most-voted short film will have the opportunity to spend six days in Naples as members of the youth jury of the Pianeta Mare Film Festival 2027, thanks to the support of KPMG.
