«The choice to clearly move towards performative electronica led me to take part in a series of projects, to collaborate with other artists, undertaking a somewhat courageous- and also somewhat risky- opening towards other musical languages. At a certain point I wanted to anchor this path of mine with a recording project», states Matteo Franceschini about his album Gravity. Born in 1979, educated at IRCAM and published by Casa Ricordi – Universal Music Publication, the composer gained international attention under the name TOVEL, winning the acclaim of the public and critics and establishing himself as one of the most interesting composers of his generation. «As TOVEL, I re-launch the figure of the author/performer. The idea was born from my need to design my own aesthetic profile, and to experiment with new linguistic updates, technical evolutions and originality. My direct and live involvement with other musicians therefore becomes the expression of my creative act». For the first time at REF, the composer mixes acoustic sounds of piano, saxophone and strings, interweaving them with explosions of modular synthesizers, giving life to an unprecedented and intense live performance, a hypnotic, transfigured and dazzling musical tale.
