Spirit Exit

In just a few years, Caterina Barbieri has gone from being one of the most significant artists of the Italian underground electronica scene to one of the leading names on the international scene, thanks to her ability to merge classic electronic sounds with daring, machinistic and natural experimentations, algorithms and the human mind. Her latest releases, Fanta Variations and Spirit Exit, received critical and public acclaim through to the inauguration of her own Light-Years label. In particular Spirit Exit, inspired by figures of philosophy and mystics such as Santa Teresa D’Avila, Rosi Braidotti and Emily Dickinson and written in the midst of the pandemic, seems like a challenge to immobility, a journey which for the first time incorporates maximalist arrangements, use of organic instruments and voice. The synthetic and cybernetic world to which the artist had accustomed us now welcomes organic instruments, voice and texts that arrive like glass shards floating in an alien horizon. Just like her live, this is a bridge between poetry and electronica, between the human and the post-human, the earthly and the otherworldly.
