Winner of the Tuttoteatro Prize for the scenic arts Dante Cappelletti 2023 and the Special Mention in the Odiolestate 2023 competition by Carrozzerie n.o.t, “Quello che non c’è” is the first work that the director and performer Giulia Scotti make presents at Anni Luce (the Romaeuropa Festival’s section dedicated to Italian young theater). Between reality and fiction, the show tell the story of Scotti’s family and delicately allows an unspoken bond to emerge. «This is my aunt’s story as I heard it from my dad, it is the story of a man who wants to save his sister from death but can’t. Almost everything is true, some parts are invented” states the director. But to tell this story Scotti chooses to turn to illustration and comics, to a succession of cartoons (made by herself) transposed, projected or simply shown on the stage. Here reality and imagination meet, the plausible becomes surreal, the gaze is deformed, time bends and expands, and the story of a father to his daughter unfolds in the imagination of a new narrative.
Bio
Giulia Scotti graduates as an actress at Grock – Scuola di Teatro. She participates as an actress in various shows, including the latest “Elogio della vita a rovescio” directed by Daria Deflorian; In addition to her theatrical practice, she explores different expressive mediums, even approaching comics. In 2018 she was selected for the European Artists @ Work project. In this occasion she created “Fermata Rogoredo”, a short comic story exhibited during the Internazionale Festival in Ferrara (ed. 2018).
In 2020, with her first comic “Tutto quello che non ho dimenticato” she won the first prize of the Milano Pitch for the adult fiction books section, awarded by the writer Paolo Cognetti. In 2019 she founded, together with a collective of actresses and actors, the Praxis association, which works by proposing a mix between the performing arts, the anthropological discipline and social research methods.
