Buchettino

Buchettino returns to the Romaeuropa Festival—an iconic production originally created in 1995 by Socìetas Raffaello Sanzio (now simply Societas), which soon became a cult piece in the international theatre scene. Over the years, it has captivated generations of children across Europe, Chile, Japan, Korea, and Taiwan, with performances even staged in the Sardinian language. Set inside a large, dimly lit wooden bedroom, the performance invites young spectators to lie in small beds and listen to a fairy tale that gradually comes to life through sound. Voices, noises, and whispers transform the space into a tangible, mysterious universe—one inhabited by the rustle of distant footsteps, the creak of doors, and a narrator’s voice that seems to mold and merge sounds from another world. Live sound effects performed around the room give presence to the story’s characters: Buchettino, his brothers, their parents, and the fearsome ogre. The bedroom becomes a resonant chamber, a space where the boundary between dream and reality blurs, where imagination takes form and fantasy briefly becomes real. The text of the performance was later published by Orecchio Acerbo, with illustrations by Simone Massi.

Co-founder of the renowned theatre company Socìetas Raffaello Sanzio—now known simply as Societas—Chiara Guidi has developed a distinctive artistic path that interweaves voice, understood as a dramaturgical key to unlocking the sound and meaning of a text, with a radical approach to childhood. She stands out as one of the most influential figures in the field of vocal performance and has established a groundbreaking vision of children’s theatre that has gained international recognition. Author of several books on her artistic research and on the relationship between theatre and education, Chiara Guidi has received numerous accolades, including two Ubu Awards, the Garrone Prize, Lo Straniero Prize, the Eolo Award for Lifetime Recognition, and the Ivo Chiesa_La Scuola Award. She is the mother of six children and grandmother of six.
