Vidavé Company

Coraggio. La sfortuna non esiste

Vidavè Company, founded by Claudio Cangialosi and Paola Bianchi Del Grande, presents a duet that stages the confrontation between an individual and their double, between identity and alterity, between what we recognize as ourselves and what continues to elude us. In a space of light and shadow, the two bodies move through fragility, tension, and possibilities of transformation, as if the mind itself became a landscape to inhabit rather than to explain. Between scenes drawn from everyday life and sudden openings onto a darker, more unstable dimension, the work ironically questions the constant state of change we are subjected to, allowing a simple yet unsettling question to emerge: how much of our destiny truly belongs to us?

VIDAVÈ Company, founded and directed by Italian dancers and choreographers Noemi Dalla Vecchia and Matteo Vignali in 2020, focuses on the production and touring of contemporary dance performances. It also explores movement research through a well-established fusion of street/club dances and contemporary languages.

In 2020, their work Another With You, produced by DancehausPIÙ alongside Dance Gallery, was selected for the Anticorpi XL 2020 Showcase and performed at numerous Italian festivals until 2021. This duet launched their choreographic career, winning awards such as What We Are 2021, the choreographic mention at Theodor Rawyler 2021, and Prospettiva Danza Teatro 2021. It made its national debut at the Teatro Comunale di Vicenza and its European debut at TanzArtOstWest 2022 in Giessen. Until 2023, they produced as associate artists of the National Production Center DancehausPIÙ, collaborating with them until beginning their independent company activity in 2024.

Thanks to collaborations such as the one with Giuliano Peparini and Eleonora Abbagnato for the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma’s production of Le 4 Stagioni (The Four Seasons), they were awarded a choreographic prize by them. This led to the creation of their first work for five performers, Hansel & Gretel Alteration, presented at the Florence Dance Festival 2022, ARTSite Festival 2022, the Anticorpi XL 2022 Showcase, and numerous platforms. Supported by Scenario Pubblico (a Center of Significant National Interest), the work debuted at the Teatro Fontana in Milan in 2022 before touring national and European festivals, including TenDance, Istanbul Fringe, AbanoDanza, 10Sentidos, F.L.I.C. Festival, Jerusalem Solo Dance Festival, Teatro Abeliano in Bari, and Umbria Danza Festival, among others, until 2024. The piece was honored with major international choreographic awards at platforms like Linkage Platform 2022, International SoloTanz Theater 2023, and Tanzplatform Bern 2023, confirming its choreographic potential.

Parallel to their production work, they refined their skills through advanced training programs, such as the Next Generation Choreographers Course 2022 by Fondazione AterBalletto and the Pioneer Project 2023 at the Korzo Theater in The Hague. Additionally, Vignali graduated as a Laban/Bartenieff movement analyst in 2024. Drawing extensively from their experience dancing for choreographers like Erika Silgoner, Germaine Acogny, Michele Rizzo, Simone Ginanneschi, Mecnun Giasar, Enzo Celli, Aaron Sillis, they pursue their own movement identity through ongoing teaching activities. They have taught for major national training centers including Accademia Susanna Beltrami, Balletto di Castelfranco Veneto, Centro Studi Teatro Carcano, OCDP Verona, Balletto Di Roma, DAF, and Arte Danza Novara, as well as international institutions like Kezer Ballet or the Acosta Danza Foundation.

In 2023, they promoted a significant part of their research project bridging movement and word, titled Spoken Dance. This project unfolded throughout the year across two creation-exercises: Stimmung, which compares the phonetic and acoustic components of spoken language with the timing of movement, and Figure Coreografiche, which primarily analyzes rhetorical figures by comparing them with choices of form and content in choreography. For Spoken Dance, they received support from the Centro Coreografico Canal in Madrid and the Primavera dei Teatri Festival. Furthermore, thanks to the Residanza 2023 award, which established a fruitful artistic collaboration with the National Promotion Organization Movimento Danza, they debuted at the Teatro Mercadante in Naples. They presented these works at Paesaggi del Corpo 2023, Acqui in Palcoscenico 2023, Crossroads Festival 2023, Futuro Roma Festival, and Tzawirowania Dance Festival 2024, also participating in Boarding Pass Plus, co-funded by the European Union.

With the official launch of their company activities, they received the prestigious Choreographic Commission from Wayne McGregor at the Biennale Danza Festival 2024 to produce new international works. This led to the creation of Folklore Dynamics for five performers, which made its world premiere at the Biennale Danza Festival and toured Spain, Turkey, and Cyprus. Thanks to the support of the NEXT grant from the Lombardy Region, it secured a national tour for the 2026/27 season in major Italian theaters. The production is also supported by Associazione Ri.E.S.Co, the EgriBianco National Center of Significant Interest, and was featured in the Italian Windows section at the NID Platform 2025.

Almost concurrently with this ensemble choreography, a new full-length piece starring the two of them as performers was launched in mid-2025: Coraggio. La sfortuna non esiste (Courage. Bad Luck Does Not Exist). Representing the pinnacle of their choreographic aesthetic, movement language, and artistic identity, the work immediately received support from Compagnia Abbondanza/Bertoni and Movimento Danza. Widely selected by Anticorpi XL, Cortoindanza, Narãnji Dance Platform, and Direction Under30, it won the Premio Twain Direzioni Altre as well as international competitions like CICBUNY. Backed by artistic residencies via ResiDance XL and a collaboration with Orbita|Spellbound, the piece debuted at the Torino Danza Festival in 2026. Also in 2026, they began expanding into commissioned creations for Naturalis Labor and the Cantiere Internazionale d’Arte di Montepulciano, renewing their research and composition interests with other bodies.
