From the encounter between Third Coast Percussion, a Grammy Award-winning ensemble, and Jlin, composer, producer, and Pulitzer Prize finalist, emerges a project that traverses and expands ten years of collaboration, staging one of the most fertile and unpredictable alliances in contemporary music. A dialogue that could only have been born in Chicago: on one side, the precision, rigor, and timbral plasticity of one of the most innovative percussion quartets on the international scene; on the other, Jlin’s radical writing, an artist from Gary, Indiana, who, drawing from the legacy of Chicago Footwork, has built a highly personal sonic language—physical, layered, polyrhythmic—capable of holding together club culture, avant-garde practice, and formal architecture.
In this new live performance, electronics and acoustic material do not simply coexist: they challenge, mirror, and transform one another. The audience moves through electronic versions of the pieces performed by Jlin alongside their acoustic realizations entrusted to Third Coast Percussion, in a continuous shift between impulse, resonance, gesture, and construction. Completing the program is a new 92NY commission that brings all five artists together on stage for the first time, opening an additional space for exploration and generating an unprecedented sonic landscape. More than a concert, it becomes a field of forces: a listening device in which rhythm, body, and imagination jointly redefine the present.
