Released in 1982 and directed by Ridley Scott, Blade Runner has become over time one of the most influential science fiction films in the history of cinema. With its vision of a dark, hyper-urbanised Los Angeles of the future, the film redefined the aesthetics of the cyberpunk genre, profoundly influencing cinema, architecture, design, video games and fashion. Starring Harrison Ford and accompanied by Vangelis’ iconic electronic score, the film explores universal themes such as identity, memory and humanity in the age of technology. Its powerful visual and philosophical aesthetic has inspired entire generations of filmmakers and artists, establishing Blade Runner as a milestone of contemporary visual culture.
Romaeuropa Festival brings this masterpiece back to the big screen in a special live cine-concert version on 8 November at Sala Santa Cecilia in the Auditorium Parco della Musica Ennio Morricone, presented in collaboration with the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia.
As Blade Runner (in its 2007 Final Cut) unfolds in high definition, the legendary score composed by Vangelis comes to life live, performed by The Avex Ensemble in perfect synchronisation with the images.
Neon lights, relentless rain and noir atmospheres merge with the power of live music, transforming the screening into an immersive and contemporary experience: a sensory journey rediscovering one of the absolute masterpieces in the history of cinema.
