The intimacy intrinsic to any kind of ending manifests itself before the spectator’s eyes: a woman returns home and begins her slow path towards suicide. But what if time flows differently? What if it was possible to go back? Two spaces and two timelines symmetrically divide De Living’s staging, as if one is the reflection of the other. In the role of the woman are twin sisters Doris and Nathalie Bokongo Nkumu (representatives of the Belgian hip-hop scene). Considered the most important German director of his generation, Ersan Mondtag builds a performance ‘machine’ capable of blurring the boundaries between dance, theater and visual arts and of undermining our fatalism in the face of contemporary life’s incomprehensible events. Moving between dream and nightmare, the power of his theater makes every word superfluous and distills the tragic experience of all humanity into the destiny of one individual.
Bio
Nato a Berlino nel 1987, lavora a cavallo tra il teatro e la musica, la performance e l’installazione. Prima di entrare a far parte della scuola Otto Falckenberg a Monaco nel 2011 ha lavorato con Thomas Langhoff, Frank Castorf e Claus Peymann, ed è stato assistente di Vegard Vinge. Ha abbandonato gli studi dopo due anni e ha fondato il “KAPITÆL ZWEI KOLEKTIF” a Monaco nel 2012. La sua produzione conta spettacoli, opere teatrali interdisciplinari e forme di festa sperimentali tra le quali la recente “Party # 4 – NSU” realizzata al Mixed Munich Arts (MMA). Nella stagione 2013/14 Ersan Mondtag è stato membro del REGIEstudio di Schauspiel Frankfurt, dove ha diretto “2nd Symphony” (2014 al “radikal jung” Festival), “Das Schloss” e “Orpheus #” (2015 al “radikal jung” Festival a Monaco di Baviera). Nel 2015, allo Staatstheater Kassel, ha creato TYRANNIS con il quale è stato invitato al Berliner Theatertreffen 2016. La rivista specializzata “Theatre Heute” ha nominato Mondtag “Miglior giovane regista del 2016” premiandolo anche nelle categorie di “Scenografo e costumista dell’anno”. La sua produzione DIE VERNICHTUNG (con testo di Olga Bach), prodotta al Teatro di Berna, è valsa a Mondtag un secondo invito al Theatertreffen . Nel 2017, in un sondaggio di Theatre Heute, i critici hanno nominato il regista “Costumista dell’anno” mentre i colleghi della Deutsche Bühne lo hanno votato “Scenografo dell’anno”. Ersan Mondtag vive a Berlino. Ha messo in scena produzioni al Thalia Theater di Amburgo, al Berliner Ensemble, al Maxim Gorki Theater, al Theater Bern, allo Schauspiel Köln e al Münchner Kammerspiele. Nella stagione 2018/19 Mondtag continua la sua collaborazione con Olga Bach (Dr. ALICI, Münchner Kammerspiele). Mondtag sarà nuovamente ospite al Maxim Gorki Theater di Berlino e metterà in scena “Die Räuber” allo Schauspiel Köln. Per NTGent e il Kunstenfestival, Ersan Mondtag ha realizzato DE LIVING. Insieme al Maxim Gorki Theater di Berlino e alla Wiener Festwochen, ha diretto in pima mondiale “Hass-Triptychon” di Sibylle Berg s. La sua produzione DAS INTERNAT (Schauspiel Dortmund) è stata invitata al Theatertreffen 2019. Ersan Mondtag ha quindi ricevuto il suo terzo invito al prestigioso Festival di Berlino in soli quattro anni.
