From Basque, batu means to unite, to bring together, to gather. And from here everything begins.
Lines, shapes, paths, interlocks, and constructions give life to a participatory performance in which space gradually transforms into a large visual and creative game.
Starting from a simple rectangle, B A T U invites participants to explore, compose, and imagine: to paint, fold, glue, assemble, build. A collective experience made of gesture, matter, and discovery, where play meets visual arts and every encounter generates new worlds.
ARTEFACTOS BASCOS is a multidisciplinary artistic creation platform for children, founded in 2016 by Basque artist Ieltxu Ortueta, who lives and works in Brazil. In 2026, the platform celebrates 10 years of continuous artistic research and production dedicated to early childhood.
Artefactos Bascos develops interactive performances and participatory experiences based on collective creation and the belief that every child is an artist. Operating at the intersection of visual arts, performance, and graphic language, the platform creates poetic and immersive works that invite children to become co-creators, emphasizing both individual expression and the collective dimension.
Its creations include m u m b l u (2025), n u b e (2025), B A T U (2023), C A M P O (2019), and FLOU! (2016), which have been presented internationally across Europe, Palestine, and the Americas.
Artefactos Bascos is a member of the VINCULAR, SMALL SIZE, and CBTIJ/ASSITEJ Brazil networks.
