The vivacious baroque music allies with African folk dance and contemporary theatre for a hit: Serge Kakudji and Alain Platel’s “Coup Fatal”. An ode to the Congolese dandies -the “sapeurs”- living between colourful dresses, opulence, oblivion and irony. Platel builds a play which is not an “Africanization” or a destructuration of baroque, but mostly homage to the “sapeurs” and their own extravagance -their way to forget on purpose the bloody wars of Africa-. Therefore the setting is created by Freddy Tsimba, whom statues are an open protest against conflicts and a monument to those devastating human tragedies directly connected to wars.
