From Berio to Ligeti: Letizia Renzini’s journey dedicated to the transmission of contemporary musical heritage to the youngest generations continues with Grasland, a production for children, teenagers and adults. Inspired by the music and story of the Hungarian composer György Ligeti, it arose from a collaboration with the Usine à Neige ensemble (which has been operating since 2017 with the aim of spreading contemporary music to children and their families in visual form).
The abstract and complex ideas giving rise to many of the compositions by the Hungarian maestro here find a playful and concrete dimension forged through drawing and video. A hare, 11 youths and a pianist are the protagonists of a scene that is transformed through drawings created on-the-spot and complex compositions by Ligeti.
All the while, a video captures the spectator in a surreal, mysterious and at times sinister journey into the soul of the most innovative composer of the twentieth century. A local youth choir participates in the show, forged through a workshop explicitly created for the show.
