More than 30 years have passed since Ed Handley and Andy Turner, together with their partner Ken Downie, founded the Black Dog (a seminal gem of electronic music of the late 1980s) before focusing on the Plaid project. From the beginning of the nineties, the duo soon became a vital part of the electronic generation of those years and a historic component of the prestigious WARP label, alongside artists of the calibre of Aphex Twin and Autechre. Moving beyond the purely electronic complexity or abstraction explored by their colleagues, Plaid have continued to incorporate soul, funk and song writing elements into their work, grafting them on to auditory and visual experiments, -as complex as they are accessible- capable of involving large audiences. Feorm Falorx, their eleventh album (2022), builds a sort of parallel universe that moves beyond the musical dimension to intersect science fiction and virtual reality: the duo’s unmistakable sound resonates with space and the rhythm of machines, where synths are used to narrate a festive but also melancholic saga, a reflection of our time.
