Fabrizio Grifasi è nato a Napoli nel 1960 e vive tra Roma e Parigi.
Di formazione classica, nel 1991/92 ha partecipato al primo corso di management culturale dell’Università LUISS di Roma.
Ha iniziato la sua carriera professionale nel 1979 e l’ha proseguita fino al 1985 presso l’emittente privata Radio Città Futura di Roma, dove ha sviluppato programmi ed eventi culturali come la presentazione del film “Stop Making Sense” di Jonathan Demme con David Byrne dei Talking Heads, l’organizzazione di concerti di rock e world music (il primo concerto a Roma di Litfiba, Simple Minds, Manu Dibango e altri), per poi partecipare con l’Arci allo sviluppo e all’organizzazione della Biennale dei giovani artisti d’Europa a Barcellona (prologo: Tendencias nel 1984), prima edizione sempre a Barcellona nel 1985 e poi a Salonicco nel 1986.
Dal 1985 al 1991 è stato socio e amministratore unico della società di comunicazione, ricerca sponsor e produzione culturale Dinamo Italia e nel 1987 ha curato la produzione esecutiva delle Orestiadi di Gibellina dell’Orestea di Iannis Xenakis, diretta da Iannis Kokkos, la tournée europea del film “Cabiria” con l’Orchestre Symphonique d’Ile de France, in particolare al Theatre National di Chaillot a Parigi, la produzione esecutiva di “Ofanin” di Luciano Berio / Tempo Reale all’Opéra Bastille e la ricerca di sponsor per il Festival di Villa Medici / Romaeuropa Festival dal 1987 al 1991 ( Assitalia, Eni e Telecom), Taormina Arte Festival e l’Orchestra Nazionale della Rai.
È fondatore e membro del Consiglio di Amministrazione della Fondazione Romaeuropa Arte e Cultura, dove dal 2009 ricopre la carica di Direttore Artistico e Generale, con il compito di curare e proporre i programmi del Romaeuropa Festival, del Palladium Teatro dell’Università Roma Tre (dal 2009 al 2013) e di tutte le attività della Fondazione, attuando e coordinando la produzione e l’organizzazione generale, sovraintendendo alla redazione e gestione del budget generale, la cura e lo sviluppo delle relazioni internazionali, la direzione e la supervisione delle attività di marketing, sviluppo e comunicazione.
Ha presentato per la prima volta al Festival (e spesso in Italia) artisti come Akram Khan, Julien Gosselin, Milo Rau, Aurélien Bory, Ivo van Hove, Sharon Eyal, Caroline Guiela Nguyen, Lola Arias, Hofesh Shechter, Guy Cassiers, Cyril Teste e Isabelle Adjani, Lia Rodriguez, Bryce Dessner, Max Richter, Ryuichi Sakamoto, James Thierrée, Gus Van Sant, Isabelle Huppert.
Ha direttamente seguito la progettazione degli eventi speciali per Romaeuropa: “Sonar Sound Roma” (2004) nelle tre sale dell’Auditorium Parco della Musica, aperte per la prima volta in contemporanea, con 20 concerti, la “Romaeuropa Web Factory” (tra il 2008 e il 2010) con tre edizioni della piattaforma e del concorso di creatività online per Telecom Italia, “Dialogue09” della coreografa Sasha Waltz e della sua compagnia per l’inaugurazione del Maxxi nel 2009, il progetto di arte e new media “Digitalife”, che nel 2010 ha visto l’inaugurazione degli spazi della Pelanda all’ex Mattatoio di Roma con Ryuichi Sakamoto, Shiro Takatani e altri artisti; la maratona di 24 ore sul Monte Olimpo di Jan Fabre, che ha vinto il premio Ubu come miglior spettacolo straniero nel 2015; e “Palamedes” di Alessandro Baricco per la riapertura dello Stadio di Domiziano sul Palatino nel 2016.
Prima di diventare Direttore Artistico e Generale della Fondazione Romaeuropa, è stato Amministratore della Fondazione dalla sua costituzione nel 1991, e poi responsabile della produzione e Vice Direttore, curando l’organizzazione di spettacoli a Romaeuropa di Robert Wilson, Peter Sellars, Trisha Brown, DV8, Montalvo Hervieu, Romeo Castellucci, Emma Dante, Alessandro Baricco, Alain Platel e Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui.
Più recentemente, ha dato impulso alle sezioni Ref Kids & Family, Digitalive, Anni Luce, LineUp!, Dancing Days del Festival, ciascuna affidata a una curatrice indipendente, impostando un lavoro di condivisione artistica e di sviluppo plurale in un’ottica di rinnovamento generazionale.
È stato amministratore generale dell’associazione Europacinema & TV Festival del cinema di Viareggio dal 1997 al 2001, membro del comitato di consulenza artistica della Japan Foundation per il programma PAJ a sostegno delle tournée europee; curatore di una serie di programmi televisivi culturali per Cult TV, consulente artistico per la danza presso la Fondazione I Teatri di Reggio Emilia dal novembre 2008 al 2013, membro del Consiglio di Amministrazione della Fondazione Fitzcarraldo per la Formazione Culturale (dove ha tenuto anche corsi di management culturale), membro delle reti europee IETM, Réseau Varèse, Theatron e Temps d’Images, membro del comitato di valutazione dei progetti di gestione dei Centri Culturali del Comune di Cagliari, membro della giuria del Premio Cultura Management 2013 e 2014 per Federculture, membro della giuria artistica del comitato IETM di Bergamo nel 2015.
Nella delegazione della European Festivals Association ha partecipato a diversi incontri internazionali, tra cui l’incontro annuale con il Commissario Europeo per la Cultura, il Forum Culturale di San Pietroburgo (novembre 2019) e il gruppo consortile del Forum Teatrale Europeo nel novembre 2021 sotto la Presidenza tedesca dell’Unione Europea. Dal marzo 2021 fino al 2023, è stato membro del Cultural Advisory Council del British Council Italia.
È stato docente e relatore di vari corsi di management e organizzazione culturale presso l’Università La Sapienza di Roma, Iulm, Rufa, 24Ore Business School e altri.
È stato nominato Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres nel 1992 da Jack Lang, allora Ministro della Cultura della Repubblica Francese, e Ufficiale dell’Ordine al Merito della Repubblica Italiana dal Presidente Giorgio Napolitano il 2 giugno 2013.
Nel 2023 è stato nominato Officier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres da Rima Abdul Malak, allora Ministro della Cultura della Repubblica Francese.

Artistic and General Director of the Fondazione Romaeuropa
Fabrizio Grifasi was born in Naples in 1960 and lives between Rome and Paris.
Having attained a Classical education, he attended the first course in Cultural Management at LUISS University of Rome in 1991/92.
He began his professional career at the private broadcaster Radio Città Futura in Rome between 1979 and 1985. There he developed cultural programs and events, such as the presentation of the film Stop Making Sense by Jonathan Demme, with David Byrne of Talking Heads, and the organization of rock and world music concerts (the first concerts in Rome by Litfiba, Simple Minds, Manu Dibango and others). He participated with Arci in the development and organization of the Biennial of Young Artists from Europe and the Mediterranean in Barcelona (prologue: Tendencias in 1984), the first edition again in Barcelona in 1985 and then in Thessaloniki in 1986.
From 1985 to 1991 he was a Partner and sole Director of Communications, Sponsorship Research and Cultural Production with the company Dinamo Italia. In 1987 he supervised: the executive production of the Orestiadi di Gibellina (Orestia) by Iannis Xenakis, conducted by Iannis Kokkos; the European tour of the film Cabiria with the Orchestre Symphonique d’Ile de France, at the Theatre National de Chaillot in Paris; the executive production of Ofanin by Luciano Berio / Tempo Reale at the Opéra Bastille; and finally the search for sponsors for the Villa Medici/ Romaeuropa Festival from 1987 to 1991 (Assitalia, Eni and Telecom), the Taormina Arts Festival and the Orchestra Nazionale della Rai.
He is the founder and a member of the Board of Directors of the Fondazione Romaeuropa Arte e Cultura, where since 2009 he has held the position of Artistic and General Director, with the task of curating and presenting the programs of the Romaeuropa Festival and of the Palladium Teatro dell’Università Roma Tre (2009-2013), as well as all the activities of the Foundation which include: implementing and coordinating the production and overseeing general organization; supervising the drafting and management of the general budget and the care and development of international relations; as well as directing and supervising all marketing, development and communication activities.
He has presented, for the first time at the Festival (and often in Italy), artists such as Akram Khan, Julien Gosselin, Milo Rau, Aurélien Bory, Ivo van Hove, Sharon Eyal, Caroline Guiela Nguyen, Lola Arias, Hofesh Shechter, Guy Cassiers, Cyril Teste and Isabelle Adjani, Lia Rodriguez, Bryce Dessner, Max Richter, Ryuichi Sakamoto, James Thierrée, Gus Van Sant and Isabelle Huppert.
He has directed Special Events for Romaeuropa, such as: Sonar Sound Roma (2004), with 20 concerts in the three halls of the Auditorium Parco della Musica opening simultaneously for the first time; the Romaeuropa Web Factory (2008-2010) with three editions of the platform; the 2009 online creativity competition of Telecom Italia for the inauguration of the Maxxi National Museum of 21st-century Arts with Dialogue09 by choreographer Sasha Waltz and her Company; the art and new media project Digitalife, which in 2010 inaugurated the Pelanda spaces at the former Mattatoio in Rome with a presentation of artists Ryuichi Sakamoto and Shiro Takatani among others; the 24-hour marathon play Mount Olympus by Jan Fabre, which won the Ubu prize for best foreign show in 2015; and Palamedes by Alessandro Baricco for the reopening of the Stadium of Domitian on the Palatine Hill in 2016.
Before becoming Artistic and General Director of the Romaeuropa Foundation, he was Administrator of the Foundation since its establishment in 1991, and then Head of Production and Deputy Director, overseeing the organization of shows at Romaeuropa by Robert Wilson, Peter Sellars, Trisha Brown, DV8, Montalvo Hervieu, Romeo Castellucci, Emma Dante, Alessandro Baricco, Alain Platel and Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui.
More recently, he gave impetus to the Festival sections Ref Kids & Family, Digitalive, Anni Luce, LineUp! and Dancing Days, each entrusted to an independent Curator, thus establishing a practice of artistic sharing and pluralist development with a view to intergenerational renewal.
In addition, he has held the positions of: General Director of the Europacinema & TV Festival del Cinema of the Viareggio Association from 1997 to 2001; Curator of a series of cultural television programmes for Cult TV; and Artistic Advisor for Dance at the Fondazione I Teatri di Reggio Emilia (from November 2008 to 2013).
He has also been a member of: the Board of Directors of the Fitzcarraldo Foundation for Cultural Education (where he also held courses in Cultural Management); the European networks IETM, Réseau Varèse, Theatron and Temps d’Images; the Evaluation Committee for the management projects of the Cultural Centres of the Municipality of Cagliari; the Jury of the Federculture Cultural Management Award (2013 and 2014); the Artistic Jury of the IETM committee of Bergamo (2015); and finally, the Artistic Advisory Committee of the Japan Foundation for the PAJ programme in support of European tours.
He has participated in several international meetings with the delegation of the European Festivals Association, including the annual meeting with the European Commissioner for Culture, the St. Petersburg Cultural Forum (November 2019) and the Consortium Group of the European Theatre Forum (November 2021), under the German Presidency of the European Union. From March 2021 until 2023, he was a member of the Cultural Advisory Council of the British Council Italy.
He has been a Lecturer and Speaker at various courses in Management and Cultural Organization at La Sapienza University of Rome, Iulm, Rufa, 24Ore Business School and others.
He was appointed Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres in 1992 by Jack Lang, then Minister of Culture of the French Republic, and Officer of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic by President Giorgio Napolitano on June 2, 2013.
In 2023 he was appointed Officier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by Rima Abdul Malak, then Minister of Culture of the French Republic.

Fabrizio Grifasi est né à Naples en 1960 et vit entre Rome et Paris.
Fondateur et membre du conseil d’administration de la Fondation Romaeuropa Arte e Cultura, dans laquelle il occupe le poste de directeur artistique et général depuis 2009, avec la tâche de gérer les programmes artistiques du Festival Romaeuropa (de 2009 à aujourd’hui), du Palladium Theatre Roma Tre University de 2009 à 2013 et toutes les activités de la Fondation, outre la mise en place et la coordination de la production et de l’organisation générale, la responsabilité de la gestion du budget et du budget général, le soin et le développement des relations internationales , direction et supervision des activités de marketing, de développement et de communication.
