This is one of the Italian groups who have done and continue to do the most to shake up the choreography and theatre sector; nerdy and slickly pop, hyperactive and poetic but at the same time mathematical and theoretical – in other words, CineticO, the company founded by Francesca Pennini in 2007, is celebrating its 10th anniversary with Benvenuto Umano .
In fact, all the elements dear to the choreographer and dancer – who trained at the Laban Dance Centre in London and has performed in some of Sasha Waltz’s biggest shows – seem to reappear and combine in this new production. The stage is understood as a body that offers itself for diagnosis: a system of symbols and iconography that, inspired by the mysteries of the Salone dei Mesi frescoes at Palazzo Schifanoia in Ferrara, simultaneously brings in elements of traditional Chinese medicine, Japanese graphics, anatomy, astrology, paganism and circus.
On stage, the members of CollettivO CineticO are joined by a small tribe of circus artists and a Chinese pole, creating an invented ritual, celebrating and uniting elements that are unconnected, tracing a line between this earth and the depths of the sky.
