Le geografie del nostro tempo sono una mappa in movimento che ci invita ad esplorare la contaminazione tra linguaggi, discipline ed estetiche. L’impulso che dà vita a questa costellazione di mutazioni non può che essere il programma di danza del REF2023, ancora una volta composto dallo sguardo dei grandi artisti internazionali e da nuove proposte. Vi invitiamo a scoprirlo qui mentre iniziamo ad esplorare 4 spettacoli della prossima edizione del festival.
Lunedì 5 giugno si è celebrata la giornata mondiale per l’ambiente. Anche per questo motivo non possiamo che iniziare il nostro percorso con Jungle Book reimagined di Akram Khan. Il celebre coreografo, che ha più volte incantato il pubblico del REF, torna reinventando il celebre libro di Rudyard Kipling in una favola contemporanea dedicata alle famiglie. Mowgli è un bambino di un futuro immaginario che ci chiede di riascoltare la voce del mondo naturale. Con dieci danzatori e danzatrici internazionali, animazioni video, e uno straordinario team creativo che vede alla colonna sonora originale Jocelyn Book, Akram Khan torna a trasformare il palcoscenico in un luogo destinato alla magia.

Tra i ritorni del REF2023 compare anche il coreografo Serge Aimè Coulibaly (ricordate l’inaugurazione del REF2018 con il suo Kirina che lo vedeva al fianco di Rokia Traoré e Felwine Sarr?). Tra i protagonisti del focus sulla scena fiamminga realizzato grazie alla collaborazione triennale con Flanders State of the Art, il coreografo presenta in prima nazionale la sua ultima creazione C la vie nella quale costruisce una celebrazione della vita, un’ode alla resilienza umana e alla sua tracotante energia. Attraverso la trance e il suo superamento, fondendo tradizione dell’Africa Occidentale e Carnevale, Coulibaly dà vita a una scrittura coreografica contemporanea la cui energia si incarna in un’esecuzione minuziosa e di grande precisione e nella musica eseguita dal vivo dal batterista e polistrumentista Stéphane Edouard.

Tradizione ed estetica contemporanea dialogano anche nell’ipnotico e misterioso Diana, Even della coreografa Kat Válastur: una personale rilettura del mito della dea Diana, portato in scena con il gruppo vocale greco Pleiades Vocal Group. Una foresta e le sue atmosfere notturne sono sfondo di un rituale contemporaneo dedicato all’universo femminile.

Ma c’è un ultimo dialogo tra discipline e tradizioni di cui vogliamo parlare. Il dantzari Jon Maya e il danzatore di flamenco Andrés Marin s’incontrano in Yarin accompagnati dalla musica live di Julen Achiary costruendo un confronto sulle loro differenze e sul desiderio di condividere il proprio cammino verso il domani.
Four dance performances are to be noticed at REF2023.
The geographies of our time are a moving map that invites us to explore the contamination between languages, disciplines, and aesthetics. The impulse that gives life to this constellation of mutations can only be the dance program of REF2023, once again composed of the gaze of great international artists and new proposals. We invite you to discover it here as we explore four shows from the festival’s next edition.
Monday, June 5th, marked World Environment Day. This celebration is another reason we cannot start our journey with Akram Khan‘s Jungle Book reimagined. The renowned choreographer, who has often enchanted REF audiences, returns by reinventing Rudyard Kipling’s famous book into a contemporary fairy tale dedicated to families. Mowgli is a child from an imaginary future who asks us to listen again to the voice of the natural world. With ten international dancers, video animation, and an extraordinary creative team featuring Jocelyn Book on the original score, Akram Khan returns to transform the stage into a place meant for magic.

Among the returns of REF2023 appears choreographer Serge Aimè Coulibaly (remember the opening of REF2018 with his Kirina featuring him alongside Rokia Traorè and Felwine Sarr?). Not coincidentally among the protagonists of the focus on the Flemish scene realized thanks to the three-year collaboration with Flanders State of the Art), the choreographer presents the national premiere of his latest creation C la vie in which he builds a celebration of life, an ode to human resilience and its overwhelming energy. Through trance and its overcoming, fusing West African tradition and Carnival, Coulibaly brings to life a contemporary choreographic writing whose energy is embodied in meticulous, high-precision execution and music performed live by drummer and multi-instrumentalist Stéphane Edouard.

Tradition and contemporary aesthetics also dialogue in the hypnotic and mysterious Diana, Even by choreographer Kat Válastur: a personal reinterpretation of the myth of the goddess Diana, brought to the stage with the Greek Pleiades Vocal Group. A forest and its nocturnal atmospheres are the backdrops for a contemporary ritual dedicated to the feminine universe.

But there is one last dialogue between disciplines and traditions that we want to talk about. Dantzari Jon Maya and flamenco dancer Andrés Marin meet in Yarin, accompanied by the live music of Julen Achiary, building a confrontation about their differences and the desire to share their path to tomorrow.
