Igor x Moreno costruisce le proprie pièce come fotografie di frammenti di umanità. Karrasekare si ispira alle tradizioni carnevalesche pagane della Sardegna e dei Paesi Baschi per indagare i rituali e le tradizioni catartiche. L’energia di questi rituali entra a far parte della scrittura coreografica e costituisce un terreno nel quale ritrovare l’eccitazione dello stare insieme e scontrarci con il nostro senso di decenza e pudicizia.

Yarin mette in scena l’incontro culturale tra due differenti tradizioni, linguaggi, zone della spagna. Da un lato la tradizione basca incarnata dal dantzari Jon Maya, dall’altra quella del flamenco rappresentato da Andrés Marin. Accompagnati dalla musica live di Julen Achiary i due performer s’incontrano sulla base di un dialogo onesto, mostrando le loro differenze e il loro desiderio di condividere il proprio cammino verso il domani.

Con Mount Ventoux, il Collettivo Kor’sia, fondato da Antonio de Rosa e Mattia Russo, rivisita Ascesa al monte ventoso, l’opera che Francesco Petrarca scrisse nel 1336: una lettera – almeno in apparenza – che racconta l’ascesa su una montagna in un pomeriggio qualsiasi di aprile. Sotto questa linea tematica apparentemente semplice, Petrarca offre un’alternativa alla fede del mondo, una sfida alle tentazioni che incontriamo nel perseguire la verità, un viaggio ascendente dell’umanità per lasciarsi alle spalle gli anni bui del Medioevo e determinare un nuovo paradigma del vivere umano: l’umanesimo. Gli italo-spagnoli Kor’sia, traghettano il testo nel presente e nelle sue urgenze di cambiamento. L’incertezza del futuro diventa chiave per un risveglio collettivo, come quello invocato da Petrarca. Un mantra, attraverso il quale Kor’sia vuole risignificare parole oggi importanti: salire la montagna, recuperare i nostri valori.

Christos Papadopoulos presenta Mellowing la sua prima creazione per Dance On Ensemble, celebre formazione composta da danzatori professionisti over 40. Incorporando nella scrittura coreografica la loro conoscenza ed esperienza corporea, Papadopoulos torna a sfidare i limiti della nostra percezione e a trasformare il movimento corale in quello di un unico corpo esteriormente immobile e interiormente vibrante.

Re:incarnation è un ponte tra l’energia dei riti di ieri e una nuova generazioni di artisti attiva sui social network, partecipe alla definizione dei nuovi trend musicali che dalla Nigeria conquistano il mondo. Dieci danzatrici e danzatori e un musicista donano allo spettacolo la loro sfrenata creatività e ispirandosi alla filosofia yaruba disegnano il contrasto tra la memoria viva del corpo e il tempo lineare del pensiero occidentale.

Igor x Moreno constructs his plays as photographs of fragments of humanity. Karrasekare draws inspiration from the pagan carnival traditions of Sardinia and the Basque Country to investigate cathartic rituals and traditions. The energy of these rituals becomes part of the choreographic writing and provides a terrain in which to rediscover the excitement of being together and to clash with our sense of decorum and modesty.

Yarin brings to the stage a cultural encounter between two different traditions, languages and areas of Spain: the Basque tradition, as embodied by the dantzari Jon Maya, and that of flamenco, represented by Andés Marin. Accompanied by Julen Achiary’s live music, the two performers come together to have an honest dialogue that highlights both their differences and their desire to share a common path towards the future.

With Mont Ventoux, the Kor’sia Collective– founded by Antonio de Rosa and Mattia Russo- revisit Ascesa al monte ventoso, the work that Petrarch wrote in 1336: a letter – at least in appearance – which recounts the ascent up a mountain on any April afternoon. Under this seemingly simple thematic line, Petrarch offers an alternative to faith, a challenge to the temptations we encounter in pursuing the truth, a journey of humanity’s ascent that leaves behind the dark years of the Middle Ages and determines a new paradigm of human existence: namely, Humanism. The Italo-Spanish Kor’sia carry his text into the present, with urgency for change. The uncertainty of the future becomes the key to a collective awakening, like the one invoked by Petrarch- a type of mantra, through which Kor’sia aspire to give new meaning to words that are important today: climbing the mountain and recovering our values.

Minimalist and rigorous, hypnotic and subversive, visionary yet deeply anchored to the details of nature and reality: these are just some possible definitions for the creations of Christos Papadopoulos. The Greek choreographer continues his journey at the Romaeuropa Festival – which has seen him participate since its inception – by presenting Mellowing his first creation for Dance On Ensemble, a famous formation made up of professional dancers over the age of 40. Incorporating their knowledge and corporal experience into his choreographic writing , Papadopoulos returns to challenge the limits of our perception and to transform the movement of many into that of a single body, outwardly immobile, yet inwardly vibrant. What processes does this energy undergo before emerging forth? And how does it change as the body changes? The movements are grafted to the soundscape of Coti K, while concentration and richness, tenderness and pulsating power, speed and stillness alternate on the stage.

A celebration: this could be a way to describe Re:incarnation by rising star of African dance Qudus Onikeku. Having gained international attention for the energy of his creations, the choreographer seems to use tradition as a filter through which he invites us to imagine the future. The vibrant colours of his world – which characterize the final days of Romaeuropa Festival 2023 – are also a tribute to the richness of Nigerian groove, whose afro beat roots are now revisited by dance-hall, hip hop and electronic music. Re:incarnation builds a bridge between the energy and rhythms of yesterday, and the new generation of dancers active on social networks, who participate in the definition of new musical trends that conquer the world from Nigeria. Drawing inspiration from Yoruba philosophy, ten male and female dancers and a live musician bring to the performance their own unbridled creativity and draw a contrast between the living memory of the body and the linear pattern of Western thinking.
