Hell in Western culture is the place of the imagination that more than any other has offeredideas for preachers, illustrators, painters, sculptors, storytellers, directors, musicians. It is the place of atoning for moral and material faults, in which the wicked are punished and good triumphs over evil. It is the place of subversion and chaos in which representation of everything can coexist. But the kingdom of a sulphurous devil with a tail, horns and pitchfork would not be a very credible representation of evil today. Hell is here, and it looks a lot like Paradise. It is what drives you to make every effort to appear better at every moment, more just, more beautiful, stronger, more attractive, more responsible, more humble, more intelligent, which pushes you to compete for moral, social, economic and emotional gratifications. Hence the idea of “Inferno”, a tragedy in the form of comedy: seductive, pleasant, engaging, brilliant and fun – on the intrusiveness of the ego.
