UNBOXING REF WE WANT IT ALL di ICK AMSTERDAM / EMIO GRECO e PIETER C. SCHOLTEN.
Ed eccoci, come promesso, ad attraversare il REF2022 e ad introdurre alcuni momenti del percorso che condivideremo insieme. Con Unboxing REF scopriremo le voci delle artiste e degli artisti del REF2020, svelando alcuni dettagli delle loro creazioni.
Un nuovo opening a cielo aperto, nella Cavea dell’Auditorium Parco della Musica, per coniugare memoria e innovazione e trovare nella fine di ogni presente lo slancio verso futuri possibili. Volerli tutti. Come cantava Freddie Mercury «I want it all!».
Una bandiera bianca sventola sul palco accompagnando 12 finali tratti dalle circa sessanta creazioni che il duo italo-olandese, premiato con il Golden Swan – la massima onorificenza per la danza in Olanda – ha realizzato tra il 1995 e il 2020. «È un segno espresso ben prima della guerra in Ucraina, che conferma quanto un artista sia completamente immerso nel momento storico in cui opera. La creatività si porta sempre in avanti e ha la possibilità di intuire e catalizzare un’energia e le dinamiche della società. Questa bandiera che sventola mossa dal vento creativo sta a indicare una pagina bianca che, oggi, dobbiamo re-immaginare e riscrivere insieme per darle una nuova forma» ci ha raccontato Emio Greco.
Ecco allora un percorso coreografico esplosivo in cui si mescolano atmosfere rock e pop, virtuosismo e classicità, corpi in rivolta e musiche iconiche di Johann Sebastian Bach, di Marilyn Manson e altri ancora. «In We want it all ci sono dodici momenti musicali che sono, temporalmente e formalmente, completamente distaccati l’uno dall’altro ma uniti da un desiderio: “vogliamo tutto”, una celebrazione, una festa» continua Emio Greco. «Il titolo dello spettacolo è un riferimento ai Queen e in particolare a Freddie Mercury. Amo particolarmente la sua musica e per me è stata essenziale. Quando abbiamo pensato di celebrare i 25 anni di storia della nostra compagnia attraverso lo spettacolo eravamo in piena pandemia, un periodo storico particolare con la crisi di un mondo che si dimostrava fallito, in attesa di vedere cosa c’era oltre. Abbiamo deciso di declinare questo verso eroico di Mercury al plurale. Ci sembra sia necessario portare avanti un discorso collettivo in questo momento, perché sta a noi pretendere uno spazio vitale e creativo altrimenti sempre più sottratto o ridotto a pura promozione e marketing. Un richiamo alle origini. Vogliamo tutto e lo vogliamo adesso per noi e per gli altri, uno spazio di cui tutti possano approfittare». Ed è in questo discorso collettivo che si apre il futuro. «Bisogna capire cosa sia un finale per noi. Dal mio punto di vista e da quello di Pieter non si tratta mai di una conclusione ma quasi dell’introduzione a un momento che deve ancora avvenire: il futuro. La presenza della junior company ICK Next in scena è proprio questo. Loro sono il futuro, lo rappresentano in un mescolamento di spazi temporali e creativi, fisicamente sono la presenza del futuro che danza i finali di lavori del passato che non terminano più ma lasciano intravedere cosa può esserci dopo. We Want it all è un grido, per segnalare la necessità di un cambiamento, di un sistema economico, politico, sociale che è collassato ma che non è stato ancora sostituito da qualcosa di nuovo. Come in quella potente riflessione di Antonio Gramsci: “Il vecchio mondo sta morendo. Quello nuovo tarda a comparire. E in questo chiaroscuro nascono i mostri”».

Insieme, il 3 luglio, presenteremo lo spettacolo Museo Pasolini firmato da Ascanio Celestini. Ancora una volta l’icona del teatro di narrazione, ritrae una pagina della storia italiana concentrandosi sulla storia di Pier Paolo Pasolini e sul suo emblematico ruolo ruolo nella cultura contemporanea italiana. Se avete perso lo spettacolo durante il REF2021, o se volete rivederlo nella cornice unica del Castello di Santa Severa, questa è l’occasione giusta!

Here we are, as promised, to take you with us across and beyond the journey that is REF2022.
The unboxing of this week sees as its protagonist choreographer Emio Greco that, together with Pieter C. Scholten and ICK Dans Amsterdam, will inaugurate the 37th edition of the festival on the 08th and 09th September.
A new opening en plein air, in the Cavea of the Auditorium Parco della Musica, to combine memory and innovation and find in the end of each present a momentum towards possible futures and to covet them all – just as Freddie Mercury sang: «I want it all!».
A white flag waves on the stage accompanying 12 endings selected from approximately sixty creations that the Italian-Dutch duo, awarded with the Golden Swan – the highest honor for dance in the Netherlands – made between 1995 and 2020. “This sign has been expressed well before the war in Ukraine and this confirms how much an artist is completely immersed in the historical moment in which he works. Creativity always works forward and has the possibility to catalyze the energy and dynamics of society. This waving flag, moved by the winds of creativity, indicates a blank page that, today, we must re-imagine and rewrite together to give it a new shape “, Emio Greco told us.
Here is an explosive choreographic path in which rock and pop atmospheres, virtuosity and classicism, bodies in revolt and iconic music by Johann Sebastian Bach, Marilyn Manson and others are mixed. “In We want it all there are twelve musical moments that are, temporally and formally, completely detached from each other but united by a desire:”we want it all”, a celebration, a “party” continues Emio Greco. «The title of the show is a quote by Queen and in particular by Freddie Mercury. I particularly love his music and it was essential for me. We were at the height of the pandemic when we thought of celebrating 25 years of our company’s history in this show, in a historical moment of crisis of a world that has proved to have failed, waiting to see what laid ahead. We have decided to decline this heroic verse of Mercury in the plural. It is necessary to carry on a collective discourse at this moment, because it is up to us to demand a vital and creative space that would otherwise be more and more subtracted or reduced to pure promotion and marketing. A reminder of the origins. We want everything and we want it now for ourselves and for others, a space that everyone can take advantage of». And it is in this collective discourse that the future opens up. «It’s necessary to understand what an ending is for us. From Pieter’s and mine point of view, this is never a conclusion but almost an introduction to a moment that has yet to happen: the future. The presence of the junior company ICK Next on stage is just that. They are the future and they represent it in a mixture of temporal and creative spaces. Physically they are the presence of the future that dances the endings of works from the past that no longer end but give a glimpse of what can be next. We Want it all is a cry to signal the need for change, for an economic, political, social system that has collapsed but has not yet been replaced by something new. As in that powerful reflection by Antonio Gramsci: “The old world is dying, and the new world struggles to be born: now is the time of monsters.”

Together, on July 3rd, we will present the show Museo Pasolini signed by Ascanio Celestini. Once again the icon of narrative theater, portrays a page of Italian history focusing on the story of Pier Paolo Pasolini and his emblematic role in contemporary Italian culture.
