Il Romaeuropa Festival continua con numerosi spettacoli: vi aspettano pièce italiane, musiche del nostro tempo, spettacoli di danza internazionale, rappresentazioni teatrali (e non solo) dedicate ai Kids e alle loro famiglie. Sarà un autunno all’insegna della bellezza delle arti contemporanee, vi invitiamo a scoprirle tutte e sopratutto a viverle insieme a noi. Dalle produzioni classiche reinterpretate in chiave moderna, alle nuove creazioni che sfidano i confini delle arti performative: il Romaeuropa Festival 2023, fino a fine novembre, accoglie sei compagnie e spettacoli nazionali. Il secondo tempo del REF2023 si apre negli spazi del Teatro Vascello con la compagnia VicoQuartoMazzini che porta in scena La Ferocia di Nicola Lagioia. Continuano a vivere gli spazi del Mattatoio con lo spettacolo Tomorrow’s Parties (versione italiana) della compagnia Forced Entertainment dove si alterneranno sul palco, per incarnare l’adattamento italiano della pièce, alcuni dei migliori interpreti della scena nostrana: Marco Cavalcoli o Roberto Rustioni con Simona Generali o Caterina Simonelli. Torna con Il Grande Vuoto la regista Fabiana Iacozzilli per chiudere la sua trilogia composta da La Classe e Una cosa enorme. Con la sua scrittura ancorata al teatro di figura, la potenza visionaria delle sue macchine sceniche, la regista, torna a perlustrare le zone d’ombra della nostra esistenza, a raccontare le aspirazioni, i sogni e i fallimenti, la fragilità, la forza e tutta l’energia che ci rende umani. Il teatro del REF torna anche nelle sale dell’Auditorium Parco della Musica Ennio Morricone con il ritorno di un altro grande interprete: Ascanio Celestini. Il maestro del teatro-narrazione in Rumba racconta chi sarebbe il San Francesco di oggi, che trova i propri personaggi in strada, tra le case popolari, tra coloro che, oggi come ieri, nessuno vede.

Dopo un piccolo break il REF torna ad ospitare la grande danza internazionale con i progetti coreografici della compagnia Igor x Moreno che porterà sul palco Karrasekare uno spettacolo che si ispira alle tradizioni carnevalesche pagane della Sardegna e dei Paesi Baschi per indagare i rituali e le tradizioni catartiche. Un focus sarà dedicato alle danze tradizionali spagnole con lo spettacolo Yarin: da un lato la tradizione basca incarnata dal dantzari Jon Maya, dall’altra quella del flamenco rappresentato da Andrés Marin. Prosegue il suo percorso al Romaeuropa Festival anche il coreografo Christos Papadopoulos che presenta Mellowing la sua prima creazione per Dance On Ensemble, celebre formazione composta da danzatori professionisti over 40. Impostosi all’attenzione internazionale per l’energia delle sue creazioni, il coreografo Qudus Onikeku arriva al Romaeuropa Festival presentando Re:incarnation, un ponte tra l’energia dei riti di ieri e una nuova generazione di artisti attiva sui social network, partecipe alla definizione dei nuovi trend musicali che dalla Nigeria conquistano il mondo.

Continuano anche i percorsi delle Musiche del nostro tempo: grazie all’Atom String Quartet e Leszek Mozdzer (tra i più eminenti musicisti jazz polacchi e pianista di fama internazionale) andremo alla scoperta del musicista riferimento dell’avanguardia polacca Krysztof Penderecki.

L’Ensemble Modern, una delle formazioni di musica contemporanea più conosciute e importanti al mondo, ci accompagnerà attraverso due concerti imperdibili. Il primo, Fantasie Meccaniche, è dedicato a tre compositori contemporanei, imposti all’attenzione internazionale per la loro originalità, e che nel corso della loro carriera hanno attraversato come vincitrice e vincitori del Premio Roma la prestigiosa Accademia Tedesca Roma Villa Massimo. A seguire l’Ensemble si affianca sul palco ad un’icona della musica elettronica: Alva Noto (Carsten Nicolai) che torna al Romaeuropa Festival in una veste inedita per presentare la quarta parte del suo progetto Xerrox.

Il nostro percorso musicale prosegue con un omaggio a Fausto Romitelli a circa vent’anni dalla sua scomparsa. An index of Metals, la sua più celebre composizione che si ispira ad un celebre dipinto di Roy Lichtenstein, sarà eseguita dal PMCE Parco della Musica Contemporanea Ensemble diretto da Tonino Battista.

Per la prima volta al REF, il compositore Matteo Franceschini aka TOVEL ci fa ascoltare il suo progetto Gravity, in cui mescola suoni acustici di pianoforte, sassofono e archi, intrecciandoli alle esplosioni di sintetizzatori modulari, dando vita a una performance live inedita e intensa, un racconto musicale ipnotico, trasfigurato e abbagliante.

A fine Novembre vi aspetta la rassegna Kids con un doppio weekend all’insegna di spettacoli, laboratori, giochi e attività per tutte le bambine e i bambini dai quattro anni in su e le loro famiglie.

Le giornate Kids saranno anche l’occasione per partecipare agli spettacoli presentati nell’ambito di FuturoPresente (un programma speciale dell’Ambasciata e Consolato Generale dei Paesi Bassi in Italia in collaborazione con Performing Arts Fund NL, Dutch Foundation for Literature, Cultural Participation Fund, SeeNL).

Anche quest’anno il REF ospita uno spazio dedicato alle attività kids completamente gratuito. Gli spazi della Pelanda si trasformano in un luogo senza tempo dove poter giocare e sognare, uno spazio non solo di spettacolo ma anche di aggregazione e partecipazione dedicata alle bambine e ai bambini di tutte le età e a tutte le famiglie. Saranno tre le attività che lo animeranno: Officina Clandestina, Officina Sonora e SPIN-OFF / Moonchausen. Tutte le attività di questo spazio saranno gratuite con prenotazione.

The Romaeuropa Festival continues with numerous performances: Italian plays, music of our time, international dance performances, theatrical performances (and more) dedicated to Kids and their families await you. It will be an autumn under the beauty of contemporary arts; we invite you to discover them all and, above all, to experience them with us. You can find all the upcoming performances by browsing through the online program.

From classic productions reinterpreted in a modern key to new creations that challenge the boundaries of the performing arts, the Romaeuropa Festival 2023, until the end of November, welcomes six national companies and performances. The second half of REF2023 opens in the spaces of Teatro Vascello with the company VicoQuartoMazzini, which brings to the stage La Ferocia by Nicola Lagioia.

The spaces of the Mattatoio continue to come alive with the show Tomorrow’s Parties (Italian version) by the Forced Entertainment company, where some of the best performers of the Italian scene will take turns on stage to embody the Italian adaptation of the play: Marco Cavalcoli or Roberto Rustioni with Simona Generali or Caterina Simonelli.

Director Fabiana Iacozzilli returns with Il grande Vuoto to close her trilogy of La Classe and Una cosa enorme. With her writing anchored in figure theater, the visionary power of her scenic machines, the director, returns to scour the shadowy areas of our existence to recount the aspirations, dreams and failures, fragility, strength, and all the energy that makes us human.

REF theater also returns to the halls of the Auditorium Parco della Musica Ennio Morricone with the return of another great performer: Ascanio Celestini. The master of the theater narrative in Rumba tells who would be the St. Francesco of today, who finds his characters in the streets, among the people who, today as yesterday, no one sees.

After a short break, the REF returns to host a tremendous international dance with the choreographic projects of the Igor x Moreno company, which will bring to the stage Karrasekare, a show inspired by the pagan carnival traditions of Sardinia and the Basque Country to investigate cathartic rituals and ceremonies.

A focus will be devoted to traditional Spanish dances with the show Yarin: on one side, the Basque tradition embodied by dantzari Jon Maya; on the other, that of flamenco represented by Andrés Marin. Also continuing his journey at the Romaeuropa Festival is choreographer Christos Papadopoulos, who presents Mellowing, his first creation for Dance On Ensemble, a renowned ensemble composed of professional dancers over 40.

Set to international attention for the energy of his creations, choreographer Qudus Onikeku arrives at the Romaeuropa Festival presenting Re:incarnation, a bridge between the power of yesterday’s rituals and a new generation of artists active on social networks, participating in the definition of the recent musical trends conquering the world from Nigeria.

The Musics of Our Time tracks also continue thanks to the Atom String Quartet and Leszek Mozdzer (among Poland’s most eminent jazz musicians and internationally renowned pianist); we will go on a discovery of the reference musician of the Polish avant-garde Krzysztof Penderecki.

Ensemble Modern, one of the best-known and most influential contemporary music ensembles in the world, will take us through two unmissable concerts. The first, Fantasie Meccaniche, is dedicated to three contemporary composers who have come to international attention for their originality and who, in the course of their careers, have passed through the prestigious German Academy Rome Villa Massimo as winners and recipients of the Rome Prize. Next, the Ensemble is joined onstage by an icon of electronic music, Alva Noto (Carsten Nicolai), who returns to the Romaeuropa Festival in a new guise to present the fourth part of his Xerrox project.

Our musical journey continues with a tribute to Fausto Romitelli some 20 years after his death. An Index of Metals, his most famous composition inspired by a famous painting by Roy Lichtenstein, will be performed by the PMCE Parco della Musica Contemporanea Ensemble, directed by Tonino Battista.

For the first time at the REF, composer Matteo Franceschini, aka TOVEL, lets us hear his project Gravity, in which he mixes acoustic sounds of piano, saxophone, and strings, interweaving them with the explosions of modular synthesizers, resulting in an unprecedented and intense live performance, a hypnotic, transfigured and dazzling musical tale.

At the end of November, the Kids Festival awaits you with a double weekend of performances, workshops, games, and activities for all children ages four and up and their families.

Kids days will also be an opportunity to attend performances of FuturoPresente (a unique program of the Embassy and Consulate General of the Netherlands in Italy in collaboration with Performing Arts Fund NL, Dutch Foundation for Literature, Cultural Participation Fund, SeeNL).

Also, this year, the REF is hosting a space dedicated to kids’ activities free of charge. The areas of the Pelanda will be transformed into a timeless place where you can play and dream, a space of performance but also of aggregation and participation dedicated to children of all ages and families. Three activities will animate it: Officina Clandestina, Officina Sonora, and SPIN-OFF / Moonchausen. All activities in this space will be free with reservations.
